When we posted our Good Things Happen note, we expected we'd get a few interested folks and, with a little luck, we'd find a strong candidate or two to add to our rosters as we plan for The Leaving Of Riley and Catrina.
What we didn't expect was a dozen applicants, and we certainly didn't expect two dozen. But, wow, did we get a lot of folks interested in working with us, which is awesome!
As we went through the applications, our first question was “Can we hire them all?” The answer turns out to be “no,” for a number of reasons, including the fact that we can't fit that many employee lunches in the employee lunch fridge. So, with that in mind, we've made some tough decisions, and have hired on a two outstanding young men while also doing a promotion from within.
The newest staffers on our team are Cam and Chris. They're both regulars in the store, and have experience in a large selection of games. Cam has already started. He'll be focusing on building up our Star Wars miniature activity, and getting us ready for our first Armada tournament. He'll also be focusing on our boardgame titles, and will be handling our 2015 AsmOPlay schedule, so you should be hearing more from him shortly.
Chris will be coming on board in the next week or so, and will be helping with support of our weekend events including FNM, Force of Will, and other things that begin with an “F.”
Beyond these two hires, we have been able to promote Cody up to management, backfilling the position Riley will be vacating on June 1st. Cody has been with us since Day One, so it's great to be able to have him take over more of the daily responsibilities of running the store. He'll be taking over all of Riley's responsibilities and will also be focused on building out our overall Organized Play offerings.
There are still a few other roles we're considering, but we have candidates identified for those and, just as soon as we can figure out how to make them happen, we'll move forward. We'll be contacting folks about those in the coming days.
For those of you who have given us your résumés or applications, we'll be keeping those near at hand. We are trying to carefully grow our staff, and we received many, many applications from wonderful people. We hire with a mind towards the long term – we don't want to bring folks onboard to see if we can sustain them. So we're noodling over our budget, and where we can sensibly invite more awesome people to join our Staff.
